On August 10 - 17, 2018, the Viongozi Leadership Retreat will bring together secondary school students from a variety of cultural, geographic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Joined by Kenyan students from the Flying Kites LaunchPad Program, participants will experience a unique 5-day retreat featuring interactive and reflective workshops, team challenges and skill-building activities. The group will stay in the Flying Kites dorms, enjoy food fresh from our farm, receive expert coaching from a diverse leadership team and, most importantly, learn from one another.

PROGRAM FACILITATORS: Our program facilitators, Claire Bennett and Titus “Tito” Kuria, developed and led the curriculum at our inaugural Viongozi 2017 program. We are fortunate to benefit from their energy, enthusiasm, and expertise again in 2018.
Claire is an experiential educator, development worker and writer, with an extensive leadership training portfolio on behalf of organizations including JUMP! and Where There Be Dragons. She is a frequent speaker and trainer at schools worldwide, including ACS in Abu Dhabi. In her native UK, Claire coordinated a government strategy to embed global learning in schools. Her biggest passion is responsible global service, and she is the co-founder of a movement called Learning Service: Rethinking Volunteer Travel. Claire currently lives in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Tito is a community activist and training facilitator for a variety of youth-centered organizations, including JUMP! and Sambaza Peace Initiative. Tito is one of the founding leaders of CMETrust, providing secondary school scholarships to students from Mathare Valley Slum, Nairobi. He is also the founder of PaaMoja Initiative, a Community Based Organization with a mission to create and connect Kenyan youth with emerging empowerment opportunities. He is a fellow of NairoBits School of Digital Design, a recipient of the Bayer Young Environmental Envoy award, and a member of Action Beyond Limits network. Tito currently lives in Nairobi, Kenya.
