We want to find a partner to accelerate our rapid growth as we look to triple the size of our campus and impact. We need talent, energy, creativity, passion and a determination to succeed that matches the determination of our students in Kenya. While we are looking for an experienced development professional, we need someone who operates or shows the potential to operate at the cutting-edge of philanthropy/fundraising. Reporting to the Executive Director, and in partnership with the Board of Directors, the Director of Development will be based in Boston, MA, and be responsible for spearheading our multi-million dollar expansion program to take Flying Kites to the next level. We’re looking for bold growth in the next three years and will look to the Director of Development to develop and present a fundraising strategic plan outlining his/her proposal for expanding major gifts, corporate sponsorship and foundation giving.  

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Develop and execute Flying Kites’ multi-year fundraising plan 
  • Cultivate major gifts AND build a system (technology, process and people) for creating a sustainable development function.
  • Overall campaign management and organization including pipelines, donor prospect tracking, strategy, task assignment and maintenance of timelines
  • Secure financial support from individuals, foundations and corporations
  • Maintaining master campaign calendar to maximize cultivation events and keep campaign committee on track
  • Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with major donors
  • Create and execute a strategy for a large sustained base of annual individual donors
  • Develop and track proposals and reports for individual, foundation and corporate fundraising
  • Budget reporting and preparation for the Board, in partnership with accounting department

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Present as a high-energy, inspirational leader who can lead a development team to innovate, create, learn and grow.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in managing development
  • Adept at working with a young, high energy, capable team in Boston and be a leader who can help develop our staff (both in Boston and Kenya) to achieve their fullest potential
  • Passion for issues of social justice
  • Experience managing budgets and able to generate and interpret financial reports
  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, and communication skills
  • Strong written and oral presentation skills (writing sample required)
  • Ability to lead a team towards shared goals
  • Independent, creative and self-motivated
