Reporting to the Executive Director, and in partnership with the Board of Directors, the Chief Operating Officer will spearhead our multi-million dollar expansion efforts in Kenya as we prepare to significantly increase our programs and double the size of our school. This position is based in Njabini, Kenya

ROLE: Chief Operating Officer, Kenya

REPORTING TO: Executive Director, USA


  • Lead and manage the programmatic operation of Flying Kites
  • Establish staff performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, conduct annual performance appraisals, and administer salary adjustments
  • Mentor and develop staff using a supportive and collaborative approach
  • Establish and monitor program performance metrics
  • Serve as the management liaison to the board and audit committee; effectively communicate and present critical financial matters at select Board of Directors and committee meetings
  • Provide analytical support to Flying Kites' internal management team including development of internal management reporting capabilities



  • Proven track record of success facilitating progressive organizational change and development within a growing organization
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in managing a non-profit organization
  • Excellent judgment, integrity and problem solving skills
  • Strong mentoring experience to a team with diverse levels of expertise
  • Entrepreneurial team player who can multitask
  • Superior management skills; ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers
  • Self-reliant and results-oriented person, who can live and work in a rural community
